Tanja is head of the unit Scientific Information at the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt, DLR). Before joining the DLR, she worked as a researcher at GESIS Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences. In the GESIS data archive, she was head of Archive Instruments and Metadata Standards. Tanja holds a Doctorate in Library and Information Science from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and a master's degree in German philology and political science from Universität Trier, where she has also worked as a junior researcher in Digital Humanities projects. She also has a background in public relations as well as a degree in librarianship. She has done research on information behaviour and practices of research data users, on knowledge organization, data indexing, and data seeking. In 2014, Tanja was a recipient of the RDA Europe Financial Support Programme for European Early Career Researchers & Scientists working with Data and presented a poster on her doctoral research at the 3rd RDA Plenary Meeting in Dublin.
