Student and Early Career Professional Opportunities in RDA
Participation of students and early career professionals within the RDA is tremendously important to us. Not only does RDA benefit greatly from this diversified and inter-generational community, but engagement with data communities throughout the world also affords this next generation of leadership the opportunity to obtain expertise regarding data infrastructure while becoming well-connected.
Students and early career professionals are welcome to join RDA as an individual member, or apply to participate in one of the following regional Student/Early Career programs:
United States:
Through the RDA-US Data Share Program, RDA was able to engage U.S. students and early career professionals in a monumental way. Students accepted within the program had the opportunity to participate in RDA’s Working and Interest Groups, under the mentorship of RDA-US Advisory Committee members, as well as attend RDA’s bi-annual Plenaries. The program was piloted from 2014-2015 through funding provided by the National Science Foundation, and due to its success received additional funding from the Sloan Foundation to expand and continue through 2018. The RDA-US hopes to secure funding to continue this program in the future.
Europe:
RDA Europe offers support to Early Career European Researchers & Scientists working with Data to attend the plenary meetings. The aim of this programme is to introduce European early career researchers & scientists to RDA, highlight what data scientists/practitioners are doing, leverage on Early Career Researchers & Scientists knowledge to support Plenary activities and support the Working & Interest group activities.
