Agrisemantics session at IGAD pre-meeting in Berlin

by Sophie Aubin

Dear all, The Agrisemantics working session at the IGAD pre-meeting tomorrow will be dedicated to consolidate the requirements collected through the use case survey and initiate some recommendations. We will take benefit from the expertise of the many participants of IGAD who registered to our session (almost 30!). We already had very good presentations today related to FAIR principles and semantics and many questions and discussions following them. The agenda for the morning will be: 9:30 - 10:00 Intro - presentation of use case and group org

To this end, we propose a three-step program: · 19-20 March at Leibniz-Gemeinschaft in Chausseestraße 111, Berlin: the pre-meeting where we will have presentations on institutional use cases, semantics and data models, and examples of implementation of the FAIR principles in research infrastructures. The full Agenda is available at

meeting today canceled

by Sophie Aubin

Dear all, I am sorry to have to cancel our meeting again. Too few advances on the use cases analysis have been done recently to justify a meeting. We will come back to you soon with an agenda for our meeting in Berlin on March 20 morning. Re: [rda-agrdatainterop-ig] [rda-agrisemantics-wg] Fwd: [rda-agrdatainterop-ig] Advice on new controlled vocabulary

by Chris Mungall

Hi all, The UO was created before QUDT existed. As an OBO person, I am naturally a proponent of the benefits of an OBO-treatment of an ontology. However, in this particular case it may be better to use a more widely supported semantic web ontology. The UO does have some useful axiomatization linking units to qualities in PATO; but this could be transferred to a bridging ontology that uses QUDT. The UO may also have some specific terms not in QUDT, but these could be maintained as an extension ontology.

Re: [rda-agrdatainterop-ig][rda-agrisemantics-wg] Fwd: [rda-agrdatainterop-ig] Advice on new controlled vocabulary

by John Graybeal

This thread is going a lot of places, so I will keep my input short (ish). Full disclosure, I have a stake in just about everything I mention. 1) The RDA VSSIG [1] has a number of task groups [2] which may be of interest. 2) If you want to use an ontology that is not in AgroPortal or BioPortal, the hopefully straightforward solution is to add the ontology to one or both repositories, that's what they are for. I should note, BioPortal is not constrained to just biomedical ontologies. A third option is ESIP's Community Ontology Repository (COR) [3].

RDA VSSIG Ontology Metadata Task Group Survey

by Clement Jonquet

Dear RDA WGs, I transfer this to this 3 groups that I know and sometimes participate in, but feel free to transfer this to other metadata/standardization/ontologies related WGs. Thanks ------------------- Dear all, [Apologies for multiple receptions - this announcement has been sent to multiple mailing lists of the ontology/semantic Web/linked data/standardization communities.] If you are somehow familiar with the use of ontologies, please consider answering this survey.
