I am an Italian national with a IT background. In my past experience, I worked in quite diverse fields from production chain optimisation to reliability and maintainability studies of complex systems. In the 90’s he headed the development of innovative Radiology Information Systems in SIEMENS specialising in system integration and security of medical records. He also worked with the European Space Agency designing a communication subsystem for the HERMES project. In 2010, I joined the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture hosted in FAO and coordinated the design and development of the SMTA reporting system adopted by the Contracting Parties. On request by the Treaty, in 2013 I carried out an extensive survey of existing Permanent Unique Identifiers technologies resulting in the adoption of Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) as the basis for the upcoming Global Information System on Plant Genetic Resources. Since then, I have focused on DOIs and their applications advocating their adoption in a wide range of fields. I am a member of the Executive Board of DataCite, a leading Registration Agency for DOIs with particular focus on the application of DOIs to a wide range of fields including scientific research, human and social sciences and arts.
