This is a wonderful and much-needed resource on physical samples. As someone involved in the creation of various 23 Things and related learning resources, I have a few suggestions to consider:
1. Is this more of a reference resource than a learning resource? If the former, I think it hits the mark. If the latter, I suggest changing the structure so that the headings are put as questions, the points flow logically and cater for beginner to advanced and that there are activities to do e.g. read this, try this tool.
2. Suggest adding a short intro on what this resource is, who it is for and how to use it. Ideally, it should start with a description of what physical samples are and then move on to who could use this resource and how.
3. Suggest adding videos and not making this so text heavy e.g. this video by ARDC IGSN: Assign a persistent identifier to physical samples - YouTube or this one minute summary of IGSNs - Synopsis - Identifying and linking physical samples with data using IGSNs-PiDs Short Bites #2 - YouTube
4. Suggest adding links to webinars e.g. this groups RDA webinar series on physical samples
5. In item 12 there is a bit.ly link with /RDAthing14 and this takes you to the DataCite home page. The link should either be changed to the DataCite home page (which I think is unhelpful as the item here is help in citing data and the home page is not specific about this) or to a more relevant DataCite blog on this topic here - https://doi.org/10.5438/1843-k679
I think this is an excellent resource and I fully support it as an RDA output. My thoughts above are just suggestions that could be considered.

This is a useful document. However sometimes it is as if physical samples and specimens are two different worlds while they actually grosso modo only differ in purpose: while samples serve to be used in analyses and usually are destroyed in the process, specimens are preserved curated objects (direct or sometimes indirect samples of nature) to be continuously studied over centuries. I would therefore expect more references in the document related to specimens, e.g. TDWG should be mentioned as the standards body for e.g. specimens (meta)data in general (MIDS draft, Latimer Core draft) biological specimens (DarwinCore, ABCD), geological specimens (EFG) and tissue, DNA or RNA samples (GGBN). The Digital (extended) Specimen concept I would not mention under communities of practice but rather under introduction and DiSSCo is not a community of practice (that is CETAF) but a research infrastructure in preparation so it should be mentioned under repositories and infrastructures. A publication that is worth listining under persistent identifiers is https://doi.org/10.3897/rio.7.e67379, it proposes to use DOIs for Digital Specimen and further steps are currently taken to implement this.
