Presentation 1 - Towards a metadata Rosetta Stone: The RDA MIG Metadata Element Set - Alex Ball (University of Bath - RDA IG Metadata)

The RDA Metadata Interest Group (MIG) Metadata Element Set is the outworking of a vision for metadata interoperability that follows from the FAIR Data Principles and the RDA Metadata Principles. The vision is to define a metadata package for any given use case, map between the package and relevant metadata standards, and thereby use the package as a conduit for conversion between those standards. The Metadata Element Set provides the superset for these packages. It consists of seventeen high-level elements that group together more detailed elements that can be used to characterize a metadata scheme. This talk introduces Metadata Element Set, shows its current state of development, and explains how it might be applied in an Engineering context.

Presentation 2 - Advancing metadata standards for low carbon energy research - August Wierling (Western Norway University of Applied Sciences -  EERAdata project)

FAIR and open data enable society to choose, monitor, and implement sustainable transition pathways. The potential for industrial and social innovation is huge. Without data and metadata standards, the opportunities of deploying large-scale data are forgone. The EERAdata project develops, explores, and tests data governance principles for the low-carbon energy field. The aspiration is to facilitate a mental shift towards FAIR and open data practices.  The talk will present results from recent work on metadata, which includes discussion about the harmonisation of taxonomies, the alignment of metadata along use cases, and approaches towards an automated sourcing of ontologies.
