Hello Educators,
Lynn Yarmey and I had a nice conversation with Stephanie Wright this morning. Stephanie leads the Science Labs at Mozilla, and we were discussing potential areas of collaboration. One area that came up was education. Mozilla has an active program on educating people on open collaboration, including a mentorship program and an ongoing series of workshops. There focus is on open collaboration broadly, but it relates closely to the work y'all have been doing around data management and related education.
Mozilla is going to try and send a person or two to the Plenary in Barcelona, but I note that Stephanie is also conducting a workshop at the Research Data Access & Preservation Summit (RDAP) in Seattle a couple weeks after the Plenary (https://www.asis.org/rdap/program-2017/). Is anyone from this group planning to attend RDAP? This would be a good opportunity to explore further collaboration or support for our respective initiatives.
cheers,
-m.

Hello Mark, Stephanie, all,
That all sounds very interesting, thanks for the update Mark.
Stephanie, are you involved in the Open Badges Standard which I know has been passed on to IMS Global as from January 1, 2017? We have been looking at this model with interest as a possible candidate for data science course certification. I, and others, would be interested to discuss this in Barcelona if it is something on which the Mozilla delegates have any insight to share.
I won’t be at RDAP, but I will be in Barcelona.
Best wishes,
Steve

Hi, Mark, Steve, Lynn, Stephanie, all :-)
I am very interested in RDM as you know but also in Digital Education, and
in Information/Data Science Education. I have been considering to attend to
the ASIST event on RDAP, but I still have an agenda conflict. I will be
definitely at RDA 9P in Barcelona.
And we are also organizing in Madrid, at UC3M, from my vice-rectorship the
eMOOCs conference: http://emoocs.eu where all the platforms and main
stakeholders in the current Open
Education have a spot to share new challenges.
I am happy to explore further on (Open) Digital Education and (Open)
Research Data
Best,
Eva

Hello all! And thanks for the introduction, Mark.
Steve, everyone who worked on Open Badges at Mozilla has moved on after the
badge work spun out into the badge alliance, so sadly there's no one I can
point you to from this side. We did see some of them at our annual
festival in London, Mozfest, last October but that's all I've got.
Sounds like it would be beneficial for me to send Zannah Marsh, our
Learning Strategist to Barcelona in April. She could share the educational
resources we've been developing and bring back insights from what you've
been working on.

Hello all,
This sounds great! I want to point out that we have a joint session
planned for Barcelona between the Data Fabric Interest Group and the
Education and Training IG, with a goal of trying to plan some training
workshops. It would be fantastic if representatives from Mozilla could
join that discussion!
