Workshop on (23 Things for) Research Data Management at Kaunas University of Technology
On the 5th of March 2020, the RDA national node hosted the Workshop on (23 Things for) Research Data Management. The full day event was led by Dr Mijke Jetten (Radboud University, Nijmegen, the Netherlands) who shared her experiences as chair of the RDA’s 23 Things project: introduction to the 23 Things project, explained the steps taken in the Dutch project, moderated the discussion on the benefit of adopting the 23 Things project in the Lithuanian context. The examples of RDM support at Radboud University, including policy and infrastructure, served as best practice examples in data management planning, storage during research, archiving and publishing data, data curation, data ethics and data privacy.
“23 Things Revisited: Field Guides to Research data Management” is a project funded by RDA Europe in the frame of its Adoption Grant in 2019. The project promotes “The 23 Things: Libraries for Research Data”, a resource developed by the Libraries for Research Data Interest Group at the Research Data Alliance, as a shared reference tool that enhances mutual understanding and improves collaboration in the Netherlands. The Dutch colleagues have updated the resource and adapted it for different audiences: for Bachelor and Master students, data and subject librarians, data stewards, IT support staff and IT specialists, policy makers, research software engineers, and researchers and PhD candidates. For the hands-on session Mijke has shared the above versions of the 23 Things and the participants of the Workshop had an opportunity to take an overview of the versions they found most relevant to their interests, raise questions and share concerns.
More than 40 participants took part at the event: researchers, PhD candidates, master students, policy makers and librarians from General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania, Kauno kolegija / University of Applied Sciences, Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuanian Energy Institute, Lithuanian Sports University, Mykolas Romeris University, University of Management and Economics (ISM), Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, Vytautas Magnus University and Vilnius University.
By bringing together different stakeholders to discuss RDM issues and learn from examples of best practice, the event was a step towards adopting the 23 Things in the Lithuanian context.
