Authors roles associated to ScholarlyArticle in schema.org

07 Apr 2020

Hello everyone,

I have just joined the working group, sorry I have missed the virtual session.

I'm mostly interested in software metadata, but I have a research metadata question, that might be suited for this WG.

The CRediT taxonomy has addressed the question of author's roles in the scholarly ecosystem (see https://casrai.org/credit/). These role can be used in schema.org with the class ScholarlyArticle. I'm in search of examples for the usage of roles with schema.org on ScholarlyArticle or other research outputs.

In the last few weeks, we have been revising a proposal for software roles, which was introduced in:

Pierre Alliez, Roberto Di Cosmo, Benjamin Guedj, Alain Girault, Mohand-Said Hacid, Arnaud Legrand, Nicolas Rougier. Attributing and Referencing (Research) Software: Best Practices and Outlook From Inria. Computing in Science > Engineering, 22 (1), pp. 39-52, 2020, ISSN: 1558-366X. https://dx.doi.org/10.1109/MCSE.2019.2949413 also available https://hal.archives-ouvertes.fr/hal-0213589

We are trying to propose the addition of author's roles into the CodeMeta vocabulary, which is a subset of the schema.org classes SoftwareApplication and SoftwareSourceCode.

Here is the open issue: https://github.com/codemeta/codemeta/issues/240

Thank you all for your help in finding examples.

Kind regards,

    Hi Morane,
I have not seen any usage of the author's roles on structured markup. Do
you know of any journal that requires its use? If so, I would suggest
having a look to their website to see whether they have any structured
    markup.
I would be interested in your findings.
    Kind regards,

    Hello Leyla and all,
I was just given a reference to the science-on-schema.org recommendations,
where it is recommended to use roles:
    https://github.com/ESIPFed/science-on-schema.org/blob/master/guides/Dataset.
    md#roles-of-people
Personally I do not know of any journal requiring the usage of roles or
    schema.org.
    Kind regards,
