Long tail data: applications for SDGs? SciDataCon Abstracts due Monday, 6/25

23 Jun 2018

Dear Colleagues,
I recall that there was a question as to whether the Long tail of research
data IG was going to continue after P11, and I am curious to know whether
there are plans for an IG Meeting at RDA P12?
Also, I would like to kindly draw your attention to an additional
opportunity for engagement during International Data Week: If you work with
Long tail research data with applications that pertain to the Sustainable
Development Goals, please consider sharing your work to session #207,
Sustainable
Development Goals Data at the Subnational Level
for the opportunity to
present at SciDataCon -- which is occurring alongside RDA P12 during
International Data Week in Gaborone, Botswana November 5-8.
We are looking forward to an interesting session on addressing data gaps
within the SDGs. There is particular interest in opportunities for
coordination and collaboration in data collection at the subnational and
regional level, and we would welcome more engagement with the Long tail
research data community. Please kindly consider contributing to the
discussion by submitting an abstract.

*Abstracts are due this Monday, June 25th.* Please get in touch (
***@***.***) with any questions.
all the best,

    Hi Lindsay, all,
Based on feedback, I think there is sufficient interest by the community to continue with the Long Tail IG. We just need to identify some priority themes and activities, so we can have a more structured discussion.
Wolfram Horstmann is leaving as co-chair so we did not submit a proposal for the P12 this time around.
However, I will be in touch with the list members to get your input about priorities for the group in the coming weeks.
Any comments or questions from others in the group are very welcome.
    Best, Kathleen
