Diplom-Ingenieur Degree in Electrical Engineering at the Technical University Berlin in 1974 with computer science and digital signal processing as main topics. Research assistant at TUB. From 1976 head of the technical group at the Max-Planck-Institute for Psycholinguistics. In 2011 head of the The Language Archive. From 2012 Senior Adviser at MPI. Since 1988 member of the central IT Advisory Board of the Max Planck Society. Member of EC's High level Expert Group on Scientific Data. Currently scientific coordinator of the EUDAT and DASISH Initiatives, and active in RDA. Areas of expertise: experimental labs, pattern processing and analysis, linguistic processing, data curation and preservation, research and data infrastructure building.
