Karen Stocks

Karen Stocks is the lead of the Geological Data Center (GDC) at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, which has a mission to archive and provide access to marine data, particularly from SIO vessels. The current projects of the GDC include: 1) Rolling Deck to Repository, an effort to capture, document, and submit for archive underway data from the US fleet of academic research vessels; 2) supporting the IT needs of the International Ocean Discovery Program, including a database and portal for scientific drilling data; and 3) curating 50+ years of SIO vessel data, both digital and analog. Her experience includes information systems for biodiversity and biogeography, metagenomics, and ocean observing systems. Stocks received her PhD in Biological Oceanography from Rutgers University in 2000.
