Hande Demirel is Professor at the Istanbul Technical University, Department of Geomatics Engineering. She is giving lectures on Geographic Information Systems, Systems Engineering and Photogrammetry. She is supervising many PhD, Masters and undergraduate students in geospatial science, She has a Ph.D. in Geoinformatics from the Technical University Berlin-TUB (Germany) on transport relevant spatial databases. She was acting as scientific researcher at the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS) of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (EC-JRC) during the period of 2011-2014, with particular reference to the study transport, impact assessment, spatial analyses and climate change impacts on various sectors. Her expertise is on spatial data acquisition, modelling and analysis from both the theoretical and empirical viewpoint. She has been involved into numerous national/international research projects, where these projects were inter-disciplinary. She is a voluntary acting as an evaluator for evaluation and accreditation of engineering programs.
