Alex W Barker is director of the Arkansas Archeological Survey, responsible for recording and documenting archeological sites and heritage objects for the state of Arkansas; currently ARAS manages data on more than 55,000 sites and 7.5 million objects. Barker previously served in leadership roles at the Dallas Museum of Natural History, Milwaukee Public Museum, and U of Missouri Museum of Art and Archaeology. He has served as president of the American Anthropological Association and Council for Museum Anthropology, Vice President of the Association of Systematics Collections (now NSCA) and Treasurer of the Society for American Archaeology. A graduate of the Getty Museum Leadership Institute, he has served on the US federal Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act Review Committee and the Cultural Property Committee of the Archaeological institute of America.
