Alessandro Sarretta has a Master Degree and a PhD in Environmental Science (Ca' Foscari University, Venice, Italy) and a post graduate master in Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing (IUAV, Venice, Italy). He has worked at CNR-ISMAR (2003-2009) in coastal and lagoon environments, studying sedimentology, morphology of their relations with hydrodinamics and anthropogenic pressures, gained also deep knowlegde of GIS and elaboration and management of spatial data. He specialised in the development and support Spatial Data Infrastructures working at the European Commission, JRC (2009-2012), dealing with the implementation of the INSPIRE Directive. From 2012 to March 2019 he was researcher at the CNR-ISMAR in Venice, where he's been involved various Italian (e.g. RITMARE) and European-funded projects (e.g. ADRIPLAN, SUPREME, SIMWESTMED, MUSES, ActionMed, MEDCIS, PORTODIMARE), working geospatial data infrastructures, tools for cumulative effects analysis, Maritime Spatial Planning, in the Adriatic-Ionian region and Mediterranean Sea. From April 2019 he's working at the CNR-IRPI, Research Institute for Geo-Hydrological Protection, in Padova. He is involved in various activities of development, support and dissemination on topics related to open source software, open data and open science.
