Dr. Fotis Karayannis has 30 years of experience in the ICT research, focusing mainly in Research Networking, Computing and Data e-Infrastructures. He received his PhD in 1998 in the fields of Integrated Communications and Management of Broadband Networks from NTUA, Greece. He participated in multiple European research projects working for commercial and research entities such as OTEPlus, GRNET, CERN, CESNET, Microsoft Research Cambridge and Microsoft Innovation Center Greece, Trust-IT services, ATHENA Research Center, and Athens University of Economics and Business. He has worked for major e-Infrastructure projects such as the GEANT, EGEE series, EGI Design Study, PRACE, and the e-IRG support projects. He has also acted as a national delegate of the Programme Committee of the FP7 Research Infrastructures and the e-IRG. He was also a national representative for the Hellasgrid National Grid Initiative in EGI and was appointed a vice-chair in the EGI Policy Board. He is currently working as an independent consultant (freelance contractor) and also as an entrepreneur.
