Jean-Bernard Minster is a Professor at the Institute Of Geophysics And Planetary Physics, Scripps Institution Of Oceanography. He was Systemwide Director of IGPP (1994-2004) and he served as chair of the San Diego Division of the Academic Senate; as member, then chair, of the UCSD committee on Planning and Budget (twice); and as member, then chair of the UC systemwide Committee on Planning and Budget (twice). He served as member of the Board of the Southern California Earthquake Center for 17 years, and serves a SCEC Science Director for a two-year term. He was a member of the ICESat science team. Professor Minster has held positions in industry and has been a consultant and reviewer for numerous companies. He was the Nordberg Lecturer at NASA/GSFC in 1996 and was elected a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) in 1990, and elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in 2013. Civil Engineer: Ecole des Mines de Paris (9169). Petroleum Engineer: Institut Français du Pétrole (1969). Ph.D. (1974) in geophysics: California Institute of Technology. Doctorate in Physical Sciences: Université de Paris VII (1974). Past Chair of the UCSD Division of the University of California Academic Senate.
