Friederike Klan is heading the Citizen Science group at the DLR-Institute of Data Science, Jena, Germany. She is an expert on knowledge management and Semantic Web. The focus of her work is on applying semantic techniques for scientific data management, in particular in biodiversity research and Citizen Science projects. She is involved in the development of a semantics-based information infrastructure for the CRC AquaDiva that offers semantically integrated and interoperable information search and exploration facilities for the data obtained within that biodiversity project. Recent efforts include the provision of tool support for selecting and tailoring ontologies and involvement in working groups elucidating the main technical barriers that hamper the automatic discovery of Research Data Services today and identify future research directions in that area.
