RDA Celebrates Ten Year Anniversary

Next year, RDA will celebrate a significant milestone - ten years since its formation! As such, we are planning a series of international and regional events and activities to commemorate this achievement with you, our member community. Furthermore, we are excited to announce the 10th Anniversary Plenary Meeting will be taking place where it all started - in Gothenburg Sweden from 21-23 March 2023, and will be co-hosted by Chalmers University and the University of Gothenburg. Look for more details coming soon!

Plenary 19 and IDW 2022 Highlights

From 20-23 June, International Data Week took place as a hybrid event, with both in-person participation in Seoul, the Republic of Korea as well as online participation. With a total of 827 participants representing 50 countries, the event brought together data specialists from across the globe to explore how best to exploit the data revolution. The programme featured more than 130 sessions from RDA’s 19th Plenary, SciDataCon 2022, and several joint plenary sessions and co-located events. The majority of the RDA sessions were recorded and available to registered participants on the IDW 2022 event platform, Whova, until mid-September 2022. The recordings will be made available for the community in August 2022. View the full summary of the event.

Members are also welcome to attend the Post-Plenary Webinar on 28 July at 07:30 or 17:00 UTC.

Group updates:

Request for Comments: Two New RDA Communities of Practice

Two new Communities of Practice for Neuroimaging have been submitted for approval by RDA - the Neuroimaging CoP and the Psychological Data CoP.

In accordance with RDA procedures, these agreements have been made open to the community for review and feedback.

By 3 August, members are asked to provide comments on the group’s mission and objectives.

New RDA Group: Artificial Intelligence and Data Visitation Working Group

The EOSC-Future & RDA Artificial Intelligence and Data Visitation Working Group (AIDV-WG) will address ethical, legal, and social challenges of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Visitation (DV) affecting of state-of-the art data technology impacting scientific exchange in the context of data sharing and the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). The AIDV-WG has been established through a competitive call for proposals for RDA Working Groups focusing on the development of solutions for the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), working in conjunction with the European Commission-funded project EOSC Future. Read more and provide your comments on the group's Case Statement.

RDA-US Provides Update on MoU Activities with LA Referencia and RedCLARA

In September 2021, LA Referencia, RedCLARA and the Research Data Alliance United States (RDA-US) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) where all three organizations agreed to mutual activities aimed at accelerating the open sharing and re-use of research data between the Latin American region and North America. These activities included efforts which would improve communication and facilitate the exchange of resources and technical capabilities. As of this writing, these organizations have made tremendous progress in meeting these objectives. Learn more.

WorldFAIR: Global Cooperation on FAIR Data Policy and Practice

The WorldFAIR project is a major new global collaboration between partners from thirteen countries across Africa, Australasia, Europe, and North and South America. WorldFAIR will advance implementation of the FAIR data principles, in particular those for Interoperability, by developing a cross-domain interoperability framework and recommendations for FAIR assessment in a set of eleven disciplines or cross-disciplinary research areas. Its kick-off meeting took place earlier last month, with participation from RDA AISBL and other organisations throughout Europe and beyond. RDA AISBL looks forward to further collaboration with this project, which will realise FAIR implementation among disciplines at a global level. Learn more.

FAIR-IMPACT and FAIRCORE4EOSC, Two Acronyms to Remember

In 2015 the vision of a European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) emerged. EOSC would provide an open and trusted environment for accessing and managing a wide range of publicly funded research data and related services, helping researchers reap the full benefits of data-driven science. EOSC is currently in its implementation phase (2021-2027) which requires active engagement and support to ensure widespread implementation and adoption of the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles, to define and share standards and develop tools and services, to allow researchers to find, access, reuse and combine research results.

The FAIRCORE4EOSC and FAIR-IMPACT projects will support the realisation of this web of FAIR data and services by delivering new core infrastructure components as well as by supporting the implementation of FAIR-enabling practices, tools, and services. View press release.
