Plenary 19 Programme Now Available

RDA's 19th Plenary programme is now available .  Plenary, social and poster sessions are tentative and will likely slighlty change as the planning process progresses. Breakout times are final.

To register for Plenary 19 and IDW, visit here. Note, the early bird deadline is 31 May.

For those planning to travel to the Republic of Korea, view accommodation information.

Join the Plenary 19 Webinars and Take Advantage of the Early Fee Discounts at IDW 2022!

International Data Week 2022, hosted by the Republic of Korea, is accepting both virtual and onsite registration. The early bird fee was extended till 31 May

The international credit card payment gateway is now fully operational and accepts card payments from all locations. For more details please see detailed information about ticketing and fees. Should you still experience issues with your registration, please contact registrations@internationaldataweek.org.

Furthermore, preferential hotel rates and special booking conditions are available to all IDW 2022 attendees wishing to attend the conference in Seoul in person.

Up to 80 rooms are available for international delegates on a first-come first-served basis. The promo code to take advantage of discounted hotel rates is included in the registration confirmation email. More details about the hotels can be found at IDW 2022 Accommodation.

Research Data Alliance (RDA) is inviting you to join virtual webinars on the 11 May. The morning or late afternoon webinar will give you a brief introduction to the RDA, on how the organisation works, and on the various ways that you can get involved. You will find general information and updates about the upcoming International Data Week and will have an overview of the virtual event platform. The webinars are free, and we encourage you to register P19 Webinars.

CSC – IT Center for Science is a Finnish center of expertise in information technology owned by the Finnish state and higher education institutions. CSC is the driving force behind EUDAT and has played a central role in many other research data related European initiative and projects acting as coordinator or leader of areas of activities. Themes span across research data services, research infrastructures, high performance computing, data and thematic clouds. RDA and RDA Europe is one of such initiatives. Learn more.

Updates From:

Time to Re-think the Divide between Academic and Support Staff

RDA members Marta Teperek, Maria Cruz and Danny Kingsley authored this article which was recently featured in Nature and speaks about the negative consequences of the divide between academic and professional support staff, and argues that this divide no longer makes sense. The authors aim is to raise awareness about these problems, start discussions within the community and start identifying the steps which have to be taken to stop the divide. Read article

EOSC/RDA Open Call: ‘RDA Cross-disciplinary Adoption in Support of EOSC’

A new EOSC/RDA Call opened last month targeting small community projects that show cross-disciplinary implementation and uptake of RDA recommendations and outputs within the EOSC environment. The deadline to apply is 11 July. Learn more.

Have you Listened to Episode 1 of Data Streams?

Data Streams is a collection of conversations among members in the RDA community about challenges they face as researchers and data experts in managing the massive quantities of research data and how together, they are finding solutions and proving the value of open research data sharing and reuse.

The first episode of Data Streams is now available. Titled “A Working Group’s Journey, The RDA Data Citation Working Group”, RDA co-chairs Mark Parsons and Andreas Rauber discuss their experience in leading an RDA Working Group, advise others who collaborate with international teams in implementing research projects, and educate listeners on the Recommendations they produced through their work. In addition to their roles as co-chairs of the RDA Data Citation Working Group, Mark is a Research Scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and Andreas is a Professor at the Vienna University of Technology.

Recommendations & Outputs:

InteroperAble Descriptions of Observable Property Terminologies (I-ADOPT) Working Group Outputs and Recommendations

The challenge.
Lack of a common framework to enable interoperability between diverse terminologies used to represent observable properties/variables and to provide the necessary level of detail needed for seamless data discovery and integration.

What is the solution?
The I-ADOPT Interoperability Framework is a set of guidelines based on a simple non-domain specific ontology that supports the decomposition of complex observable properties into their essential atomic parts represented through the concepts in FAIR terminologies.

What is the Impact?
The I-ADOPT Interoperability Framework is a substantial contribution to enabling the interoperability of terminologies, within and across domains without sacrificing any prior efforts. It serves as a common layer of abstraction through which concepts from different terminologies can be systematically aligned and extended, as needed.
