RDA Month in Review: Early Bird Deadline Extended for IDW, Upcoming Webinars and more

IDW Early Bird Registration Extended until 10 June

Please note that early bird fees for on-site attendance have now been extended until 10th June. Additionally, virtual early bird fees will now also remain valid up until registration closure on 22nd June.

Those wishing to attend will first need to create an account on IDW2022.org. Once an account has been created, you can continue to register to attend in-person or virtually. If you have already registered to attend virtually, but now would like to attend in person, you can still upgrade that initial registration by logging in to your previously created account at idw2022.org. To complete registration for IDW, please visit https://idw2022.org/.

Requests for cancellation will need to be made no later than 7 days prior to the conference to receive a full refund. Cancellations must be submitted in writing and sent via email to registrations@internationaldataweek.org


International Data Week 2022 - Theme & Subthemes

With the overarching theme of ‘Data to Improve Our World’, IDW 2022 will also emphasize the following subthemes throughout the event: Research transparency and reproducibility Data, research and industry:

  • The interface between data-intensive research and innovation
  • Empowering and enabling society: Data (science) education and data literacy
  • Transdisciplinary research and citizen science

Travel Requirements for South Korea

For those traveling to South Korea for IDW and Plenary 19, please take note of the following:

  • Beginning 1 June, international arrivals will be required to undergo a PCR test within three days (previously 24 hours) of their entry into the Republic of Korea. PCR tests are available at the Incheon airport by making reservations on Safe2GoPass website. Results will be sent by email within 16 hours and travelers may proceed to their accommodation while waiting for the result. All you need to know before your travels can be found in the Travel Guide.
  • Fully vaccinated attendees now allowed to visit Korea with no mandatory quarantine period; quarantine exemption will be available for those who have completed their third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine or received two doses (one dose for Janssen) at least 14 days prior but within 180 days. Overseas visitors must enter their vaccine records to Q-CODE prior to arriving in Korea and scan the provided QR code upon immigration. Q-CODE will require personal information (passport number), entry information (departure country, airline, address in Korea, phone number), and vaccine records. RDA-SHARC Interest Group Survey

Members are encouraged to submit the RDA-SHARC Interest Group survey, aimed at identifying perceptions and expectations about how open science activities are or should be taken into consideration and rewarded/rewarded. English, Spanish and Korean versions of the survey are available. View survey.


RDA Podcast Update

This month, the RDA-US office will be releasing its second podcast in its DataStreams series. Hear from one of the newest RDA groups, the Data Repository Attributes Working Group, and what motivated them to get started, what they’ve learned so far, and recommendations for others on how to not only get involved with this group, but also RDA. Co-chairs Matthew and MIchael Witt will be our featured speakers in this episode.

On 14 June, RDA Secretary General Hilary Hanahoe will provide a keynote address during the International Association of University Libraries Conference in Miami, Florida. Hilary’s keynote will highlight her vast experience in research data and global cross disciplinary sharing. Taking place from 12 June 12-16, 2022 the conference provides an excellent opportunity to hear about the latest academic library initiatives, visit award- winning libraries, and network with colleagues from all over the world. Open Calls: ‘RDA Cross-disciplinary Adoption in Support of EOSC’ - Deadline to Apply is 11 July

This open call for proposals will select small community projects to show cross-disciplinary implementation and uptake of RDA recommendations and outputs within the EOSC environment.

Transform to Open Science (TOPS) Curriculum Development Team

AGU and NASA have made a commitment to advancing the principles of open science to build a more inclusive and open community at NASA, AGU and beyond. To help catalyze and support this cultural change by engaging researchers in open science leading practices., NASA launched the Open-Source Science Initiative (OSSI) and created the Transform to Open Science (TOPS) mission. At this time, AGU TOPS is seeking subject matter experts to help develop the TOPS OpenCore curriculum. Learn more.

The International Science Council’s Committee on Data (CODATA) and World Data System (WDS), and RDA have announced  International Data Week 2023: A Festival of Data, taking place on 23–26 October 2023 in Salzburg, Austria. Learn more.

CODATA-RDA School for Research Data Science Currently Running

São Paolo welcomes attendees for the online & self-paced Data Science School that is running from 9 May - 15 July. Through this school, 101 early-career African/South American researchers (M-level to postdoc) and professionals are gaining foundational data science skills, which include technical skills and responsible research practices, to enable them to work with their data in an effective and efficient manner required by 21st-century research.  

From 11-22 July, the School is returning to Trieste, Italy, in  a hybrid format.  Applications are being accepted here.
