RDA Ireland Meet the Expert: Rebecca Grant - "Research data in Ireland: from policy requirements to researcher incentives"

Date:
01 May 2020 - 14:00 UTC

Since the 2010s, research data management policy and practice has developed rapidly in Ireland. National strategy, stakeholder policy and relevant legislation support organisations and individuals in sharing research data openly. In parallel, stakeholders are developing incentives to encourage researchers to comply with applicable policy.

In this talk, Rebecca Grant (Research Data Manager at Springer Nature and doctoral candidate at University College Dublin) discusses how research data policy and practiced have evolved in Ireland since 2014, including data from a survey of Irish organisations conducted in 2018. Drawing on her current role as research data manager at an academic publisher, she also presents a case study on the connections between policy and incentives which encourage (or require) researchers to comply.

The talk was moderated by Dr. Sandra Collins, Director of the National Library of Ireland and RDA Ireland national node Coordinator.

Rebecca Grant is Research Data Manager at Springer Nature, where she supports the implementation of standardised data policies across journals and manages a data-focused helpdesk for authors. She is an active member of the Research Data Alliance, co-chairing both the Data Policy Standardisation and Implementation Interest Group and the Archives and Records Professionals for Research Data Interest Group. Additionally she is a doctoral candidate at University College Dublin, where her research investigates current data management practice in Ireland and the connections between data management skills and archives and records management theory.
