The Global Open Research Commons (GORC) International Model WG works under the umbrella of the GORC IG. NOTE: Earlier versions of the charter refer to Benchmarking - name was changed after discussion with Council.

The GORC IG is working on a set of deliverables to support coordination amongst national, pan-national and domain specific organizations such as the European Open Science Cloud, the African Open Science Platform, and the International Virtual Observatory Alliance as they work to build interoperable resources necessary to enable researchers to address societal grand challenges. The realized vision of GORC will provide frictionless access to all research artifacts including, but not limited to: data, publications, software and compute resources; and metadata, vocabulary, and identification services to everyone everywhere, at all times.

The GORC IG is working to develop a roadmap for global alignment to help set priorities for Commons development and integration. In support of this roadmap, this International Model WG will collect and curate a set of attributes that will allow Commons developers to compare features across science clouds and commons.

When relevant, the WG will also collect information about how existing commons are measuring success, adoption or use of their attributes and services within their organization, such as number or amount of data downloads, contributed software, and similar key performance indicators (KPI) and access statistics.

The WG will create and populate a model or framework to describe Commons attributes, but we are not interested in endorsing, certifying or otherwise placing a value judgement on Commons and their features, nor do we intend this to be the only or penultimate model of a Commons.

The WG is expected to go into maintenaince mode in the near future, as we have published our final outputs:

Note that the model is based on the essential elements of commons identified in the IG definitions document. We invite community members to review our deliverables, including the model and report, as we will be investigating how to further this work in the near future.

Our group communicates through posts on the RDA website as well as directly through email. Our next meeting is February 22nd, 2024, at 13:00 UTC on ZoomMore information on our previous and upcoming meetings can be found on our Group Meetings wiki page.

GORC-WG 28 September 2023 Meeting Recap

by CJ Woodford

Hello everyone,  Thank you to those that attended our last regular GORC-WG meeting today. We discussed what adoption cases might look like for the model as well as promotion and outreach both for comments during the ongoing RDA Request for Comment as well as for general use. I encourage everyone in the WG to engage in the RfC and to share it with your colleagues as appropriate.

28 September, 2023 GORC-WG meeting

by CJ Woodford

Hello all,   At our meeting this Thursday/tomorrow, 28 September, 2023 at 13:00 UTC, we will be reviewing any comments and suggestions left on the model, model overview, and/or report so far. This is also a great opportunity to bring your own comments and suggestions forward so that we can discuss and document them. Note that this is our last meeting before RDA21/IDW23, and that we do not have any scheduled meetings afterwards since this working group is anticipated to go into maintenaince mode starting in Novermber this year.

Version 1.0 Meeting #9 Recap - Meeting #10 is cancelled!

by CJ Woodford

Hi folks,   Thank you to Andrew and Francoise for getting us over the finish line in meeting #9! We discussed the introduction tab for the model and agreed to: 1) create an "introduction to the model" document that will be separate from the report and contain only a narrative overview of the model (for those who worked on the report, a copy of Section 4 with an introduction and summary), and 2) submit a static xlsx for endorsement and citation that will point to a comments-enabled google sheet representation.
