This short-lived group contains details regarding the upcoming RDA Collaboration Meeting in Gothenburg, hosted by Gothenburg University, as announced at the event information site.
The meeting will begin at 13:00 on June 12 and end at 12:00 on June 14, 2017. All RDA Chairs are invited, but registration is required. To register, please go to https://snd.gu.se/en/registration-rda-chairs-meeting-june-12-14-gothenburg-sweden
Future updates will be posted to the mailing list for this group. The group is public but to receive the updates as email please join this group.
All attendees are also invited to a side meeting on the afternoon of the 14th entitled ‘Views on data-sharing’: Representatives from major private companies funding collaborative research with the universities will give their view on research data-sharing. Generally the researchers are reluctant sharing their research data from industry funded projects, but what is the view of the companies? How can data-sharing be organised in terms of contractual regulations, embargo periods etc fulfilling both the Open Science perspective and the funders need? The side-meeting is open to all interested.
Logistics information a detailed agenda will follow as soon as they are available.

Chairs meeting Gothenburg and Blockchains
Dear colleagues, at the Gothenburg meeting we had a very engaged and substantial contribution from Edwin about blockchain technology. Since BCT was an issue also in other discussion circuits I got together with a colleague from the health domain and we looked a bit deeper into the blockchain approach. It took us a bit more time than expected to finish the document, since much is published and not all what is published did make sense to us. In the current version you can see how the document grew and grew.1 | Add new comment
Summary of Conclusions Reached at the 7th WG/IG Chairs Meeting
by Larry Lannom
All, As promised, here is a summary document of what I heard as near consensus recommendations out of the Gothenburg meeting. This is just my summary (although not necessarily my opinion), so please comment/disagree with what I have labelled V1 of the brief document. Next step would be to send it to the entire Chairs list plus TAB for another round and then decide whether or not it is worth pushing to a wider audience. Thanks, Larry3 | Add new comment
Gothenburg Meeting Slides and Notes
by Larry Lannom
All, The slides and notes from the Gothenburg meeting have been posted at https://www.rd-alliance.org/group/7th-wgig-collaboration-meeting-gothenb... I will next try to summarize the conclusions and proposals resulting from the meeting. I am about to travel so this may take a bit. Best, Larry0 | Add new comment
RDA, DCAT and W3C
charset=windows-1252"> OGC is working on best practices for using application profiles of the existing DCAT, in the context of geospatial data. W3C DXWG, on the other hand, is looking at extending/revising DCAT (DCAT-2?). OGC's efforts will reveal requirements for DCAT-2, I suspect. But RDA can bring to the table domains other than geospatial, as well as expertise in various other kinds of metadata standards. sjs On 6/29/17 5:31 PM, jay.pearlman wrote:0 | Add new comment
Proposals from the end of the Chairs' Collaboration meeting
by Larry Lannom
Those of you who were at the Gothenburg meeting saw two summary/action presentations at the end, prior to the W3C discussion in the afternoon. The first was from Peter Wittenburg and the second from Bob Hanisch, representing himself and his co-conspirators Rebecca Koskela and Keith Jeffery. Bob & Co. elaborated each of their seven points in a Word doc and that doc plus Peter's slide set are attached.8 | Add new comment
RDA as "publisher" of/display of DOIs in Recommendations & Outputs
Hi everyone, I wanted to expand on my remark yesterday at our meeting that RDA recommendations and outputs (at least the "endorsed" ones) need DOIs to become easily and unambiguously citable by others in the scientific community, also making RDA as an organization more recognizable as - if you will - a publisher of those works, where the groups are the creators/authors. (As of now, there are apparently 30 RDA-assigned DOIs.)2 | Add new comment
Elite Park Avenue Hotel Göteborg: ongoing construction & direction tradeoffs
Tip for anyone planning on staying at the Elite Park Avenue Hotel Göteborg (Kungsportsavenyen 36): if you choose a room facing Northwest (Engelbrektsgatan), you will face more street traffic noise ... but if you choose a room facing Southeast, with the otherwise nice Lorensbergsparken, you will face the currently ongoing expansion of the hotel (which is indeed advertised inside the hotel elevators), involving major jackhammers (including on Sunday, I was told at the reception). See attached photo, with hotel room windows on the SE side in the background.0 | Add new comment
