The Evolving Landscape of Federated Research Data Infrastructures: Knowledge Exchange new report

Knowledge Exchange has published its new report called "'The Evolving Landscape of Federated Research Data Infrastructures”: this report is an overview and synthesis of the evolving landscape of Federated Research Data Infrastructures (FRDIs) in the six KE partner countries: Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Work was designed to find answers to questions such as ‘Which are the main drivers for federating RD infrastructures and services ? What are the expected benefits? What are the consequences for research and researchers? What challenges and issues arise when making a federated research data infrastructure function well?'

e-IRG Report: Evaluation of e-Infrastructures and the development of related Key Performance Indicators

The e-Infrastructure Reflection Group (e-IRG) has produced a new document titled "Evaluation of e-Infrastructures and the development of related Key Performance Indicators". The objective of this e-IRG document is to provide an initial framework for evaluation and assessment of regional, national and European e-Infrastructures and to develop a categorisation of KPIs for key areas/components and other cost-related information, basically for the funder and policy level.

Taking care of the Long Tail of Data: I-IRG report

Data driven science is seen as the fourth paradigm of scientific research after experimental science, theoretical science and computational science.  

While great focus is given to Big Data (comprising structured as well as unstructured data with a tendency to be homogeneous and standardized), at the opposite side of the spectrum Long Tail Data - characterized as heterogeneous, relatively small data, often with unique standards and not regulated - has received so far less attention and poses its challenges.

"Key components of data publishing: using current best practices to develop a reference model for data publishing" - an RDA-WDS Data Publishing Workflows WG article gets published

The RDA-WDS Data Publishing Workflows Working Group  set out to study the current data-publishing workflow landscape across disciplines and institutions. A diverse set of workflows were examined to identify common components and standard practices, including basic self-publishing services, institutional data repositories, long-term projects, curated data repositories, and joint data journal and repository arrangements.
