All,
As you know, we had two meetings scheduled for the afternoon of the 14th, after the conclusion of our Chairs' meeting. They were the meeting on Commercial Views on Data Sharing and a W3C/RDA Collaboration discussion led by Phil Archer of W3C and introduced towards the end of our Chairs meeting proper by Keith Jeffery. The second of these, W3C/RDA Collaboration, is still in place, and will be held in the same location as our Chairs' meeting, but the other meeting has just been cancelled. So our Chairs' meeting will be followed by lunch (which has also moved by 30 minutes to begin at 12:30) and then the W3C meeting.
Also, here is a link to the very nice looking venue: OM OSS<

Just to add to Larry’s message, the W3C/RDA meeting under the auspices of the EC-funded VRE4EIC project will go ahead. It is really a planning meeting (a) to make sure RDA group chairs know of the activity planned for W3C DXWG (Data Exchange Working Group) which plans to improve DCAT in among work on metadata standards for data exchange generally; (b) to encourage participation from RDA group chairs in this activity with the aim of closer cooperation between W3C and RDA.
I do hope as many as possible of attendees can stay on for a relatively short period to be involved.
Best wishes
Keith

Keith,
thanks for this amplification. Will the discussion also explore closer
coordination more broadly between RDA and W3C? If not, I (I don't want to
speak for Françoise) would be keen to have a followon chat with Phil about
this topic.

As I indicated there are two objectives: first and most urgently I would like RDA group chairs’ (and indeed group members’) involvement in the VRE4EIC/W3C effort to improve metadata standards for (research) data interoperation. I believe this to be very much aligned with RDA vision and objectives. Secondly – and perhaps more importantly – I would like to see this as the first step in closer RDA/W3C cooperation. Of course this second objective is outside of my responsibility and requires RDA management decisions.

Keith,
thanks for the clarification. I agree that the wider question of the
relationship between RDA and W3C will require the consideration of Council
(and probably the new Secretary General once appointed) but I am sure that
we can use the time next week to start the discussions and see what makes
sense.

I am delighted that you and Francoise are taking a positive attitude to this; if the rest of TAB agree then I suggest we can ‘do the groundwork’ for enhanced RDA/W3C cooperation in Göteborg and escalate thereafter to Council.
But meantime and in parallel I would like – unsurprisingly - to get the technical discussions on metadata running!

Dear all,
Just to chime in here.
In terms of the side meeting, I'll stick to an hour as being sufficient
time for Keith and I to offer a briefing on the project and the W3C WG
respectively.
On the wider RDA/W3C collaboration, I believe this is best discussed
more or less informally. I will be in Göteborg all day on Tuesday. A
local contact has organised a couple of meetings for me during the
morning but, without wishing to gatecrash, I'm hoping I'll be able to
join you at least in the evening, if not some time in the afternoon.
A couple of data points: RDA is hiring a new Secretary General;
(breaking news) I am leaving W3C at the end of the month. Therefore, I'd
like to focus on general principles that we can all hand on to relevant
people for a future discussion. I'm delighted to say that W3C is keen
for this relationship to develop and I am confident that that sentiment
will persist after I am gone - so it's not a waste of time!
I'd be grateful for guidance on when and where it will be appropriate
for me to join you all next week.
Thanks
Phil

As I understand it - following the loss of the 'Commercial views on Data Sharing' meeting - the new agenda will be 1200-1300 lunch, 1300-1400 (may continue if people wish to stay) VRE4EIC/W3C/RDA meeting
Larry/Peter -
Is that your understanding?

Correct, with the exception that lunch was pushed to 12:30. So, following what I assume will be an hour or so of lunch and chat, which I hope Phil can attend, we will have an hour or so of VRE4EIC/W3C/RDA meeting. As far as I know we have the room for the rest of the day and anyone who wants to hang around and continue the discussion is welcome to do so. But I assume that the meeting proper will close around 14:30.

The latest draft agenda is on the meeting site
https://www.rd-alliance.org/sites/default/files/7th%20Chairs%20Meeting%2...
We start at 13:00 on the 12th, end at 18:00 followed by a self-pay dinner.
We start at 09:00 on the 13th, end at 17:00 and are invited (registration was required) to a very nice dinner at 19:00
On the 14th, we start at 09:00, end with lunch at 12:30, and the side meeting scheduled for one hour follows lunch.
The side meeting schedule was up in the air until yesterday and so did not make it onto the agenda.
Best,

All,
As you know, we had two meetings scheduled for the afternoon
of the 14th, after the conclusion of our Chairs' meeting. They
were the meeting on Commercial Views on Data Sharing and a
W3C/RDA Collaboration discussion led by Phil Archer of W3C and
introduced towards the end of our Chairs meeting proper by
Keith Jeffery. The second of these, W3C/RDA Collaboration, is
still in place, and will be held in the same location as our
Chairs' meeting, but the other meeting has just been
cancelled. So our Chairs' meeting will be followed by lunch
(which has also moved by 30 minutes to begin at 12:30) and
then the W3C meeting.
Also, here is a link to the very nice looking venue:

Siri-
Thanks for the 'heads up'. I assume W3C will ensure the work of the OGC group is wrapped into DXWG.
Best wishes,
Keith

Calling your attention to the fact that the OGC has also spun up a group looking at DCAT. They meet today at the OGC TC meetings in Newfoundland. Agenda and remote connection details are here:

It's an OGC-only group, looking particularly at spatial data. I have
been invited to their meetings and they are well aware of DXWG. Although
the future of this particular work item is unclear, DXWG and the ongoing
and deepening relationship between W3C and OGC gives me hope that it
will go in the right direction.

Much talk about DCAT at LODLAM here as well. Seems heavily in use in the
linked data community.

I hope that support can be turned into participation in the DXWG to
ensure that DCAT really covers important use cases from a variety of
domains. We have over 30 UCs at the moment [1] and the WG is working
through them to decide which to include, which are duplicates etc.

Phil, et al.
With as many things going on in the community, does a jointly sponsored by W3C and RDA for the community at large make sense?
