Dear data specialists,
At Utrecht University Library, we are working on a survey to asses data practices of the researchers at different faculties.
We would be very grateful if those who did similar surveys already could share their experiences with us.
We already know that TU Delft did a “Quantitative assessment of research data management practices” and published the results https://zenodo.org/record/3380332, but we expect that there is more out there.
Please let me know if you know of exisiting surveys and their results.
Many thanks in advance!

Hi Lena, Lisa -
Perhaps relevant, although with a focus on FAIR-related practices: The FAIR Convergence Matrix (pre-print: https://osf.io/yxum9/ ).
The Convergence Matrix is a questionnaire that prompts communities to list their implementation choices and challenges when going FAIR. We are experimenting with a nice user interface and output in nanopublication (linked data) format.
The tool is still in development, but once stabilised, will be openly available.
We now have about 30 “communities” that have responded to the questionnaire and the first round of analyses are underway. We aim to present the results at a co-localized event in Helsinki.
Cheers,
Erik

Hi Lena,
Rutger Vos created: Ten simple rules for managing high-throughput
nucleotide sequencing data
which was based
on what Naturalis does, or ought to do, in its capacity of an accidental
sequencing center.
I hope this helps,
Wouter

Hoi Lisa,
In 2013 and 2014 Peter Wittenburg and myself ran an community analysis
programme where we performed site visits to many institutes and had many
short interviews (and conferences etc.) to look into typical data
management practises.
You can find our report here:
https://b2share.eudat.eu/records/5029ffb87cf84d7fb09e7e515a9bb5f9
As an aside we encountered a lot of disk-on-shelf+postdoc archiving.
I hope that with the current awareness of the issues you may encounter a
more optimistic image.
(but that might just be my RDA bubble).
Cheers,
Herman
