Dear Wouter
Thanks for the effort to put this presentation together.
There is one element missing, where the biodiversity community is a leading agent, well beyond the taxonomic community, that is in producing semantically enhanced, taxonomic specific based publications based on the National Library of Medicine’s Journal Archival Tag Suit (JATS) Taxpub extension (all the Pensoft based publications), and the conversion of PDFs into semantically enhanced data at TreatmentBank (TB) and the Biodiversity Literature Repository (BLR). There exist also services to make use of this options: http://plazi.org/news/beitrag/pensoft-and-plazi-join-forces-to-expedite-... )All the data produced is immediately accessible at GBIF (plazi being a major contributor to GBIF), NCBI and includes now a resources of millions of facts, accessible as RDF triples, and different formats; 220.000 taxonomic treatments, 170,000 published scholarly illustrations enhanced with links to related items via TreatmentBank and BLR, accessible by human of via API, and as html, JSON, etc. The system has been described at a previous RDA in Barcelona https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.439627. The Biodiveristy Literature Repository is with over 50% of the deposits the single biggest contributor to Zenodo/CERN. TreatmentBank discovers and makes data of over 30% off all the annually new described species per year accessible. Finally, the use of persistent identifiers for treatments allows to link specimens to their use in scholarly articles, and vice versa.
With my best regards
Donat
