Dear all,
as just discussed at our virtual meeting:
We have our guiding principels / draft recomemndation document and will
further flesh this out over the next weeks, but what we are missing are
more concrete descriptions of use cases or, even better, concrete
adoption and implementation stories. This is also relevant for the
P11 session, because we want to have a few adoption/implementation
presentations. RPID and DOI Foundation are good candidates, but surely
there are more.
So: Do you have an implementation or adoption going on that you are
willing to share with the group at the P11 session? Please let us know!
Best, Tobias

I would like to know what RPID is. What does it stand for?

Hi Kei,
RPID is Robust Persistent Identifier Testbed (RPID) mainly located on the computing resources of Indiana University.
RPID has deployed Handle/DTR instances as PID testbed with 4 application cases.
More details about RPID project you can find at RPID main site: https://rpidproject.github.io/rpid/
Many thanks!

Dear Quan,
Thank you for you info. I think RPID is a good case to see the functions KI working group will provide in the first impression. It seems to have Handle Server with KI profile, Data Type Registory, and data sources, so I guess it will demonstrate automatic data processing by a kind of software agent, which is the main theme of our goal.
best regards,
Kei

Hi Kei,
The RPID testbed, funded by the US national science foundation, is for exploratory use by the community. It issues test handles so can be used for evaluation prior to adoption of a PID solution.
The RPID team is additionally using the testbed to evaluate the impact of a larger PID record on performance, build off handle template mechanism to map CTS URNs and handles, and develop workload of PIDs that have PID KI in record for use by others.
One of our use cases involves AIST in Japan, so RPID is far from just a national resource!

Yes, agreed that RPID is good use case for session. We haven't written the client you allude to because we are working on earlier step of creating curated collection of PIDs with kernel information.
