RE: [imrr-wg][rda-matdatainfrainterop-ig] Plenary 9 Materials IG & WG sessions & latest posting of MatSci Vocab

03 Apr 2017

Dear Colleagues,
Many thanks for the information and sorry that I cannot attend these important sessions since the European Materials Modelling Council has a meeting at the same time (5-7 April) in Vienna: https://sites.google.com/view/emmc-internationalworkshop2017 Indeed, another group member (Zach Trautt) will join us in Vienna and we look forward to discussions about metadata, interoperability and repositories also during our meeting.
I would like to make a comment on the draft vocabulary. For the terms in the Computational methods I would strongly recommend to follow the vocabulary and classification proposed in the Review of Materials Modelling (see https://emmc.info/version-6-of-the-romm-is-now-available/) , which also forms the basis of a CEN workshop https://emmc.info/cen-workshop-to-establish-common-terminology-in-materi... which is well under way.
I would be pleased to discuss how we can interact going forward.
Best regards
Gerhard

Subject: [imrr-wg][rda-matdatainfrainterop-ig] Plenary 9 Materials IG & WG sessions & latest posting of MatSci Vocab
Dear All,
We look forward to seeing those who are able to attend P9. There will be two sessions that the Materials IG &WG are involved with and your participation at both are welcomed.
Wednesday 5th April, Breakout 1, 11:30 - 13:00 Joint Meeting: IG RDA/CODATA Materials Data, Infrastructure & Interoperability and WG International Materials Resource Registries
Thursday 6th April, Breakout 6, 14:00 - 15:30 Joint Meeting: IG RDA/CODATA Materials Data, Infrastructure & Interoperability, WG International Materials Resource Registries, IG Chemistry Research Data, IG Research data needs of the Photon and Neutron Science community and IG Metadata.
At both meetings the focus for the materials presentations will be on the latest version (3/31) of the MatSci Vocab which is available for download on this site and the Materials Resource Registry which will be demonstrated at both sessions.
We hope to get your feedback and discuss interest in adoption of these evolving efforts.
Best wishes,
Jim Warren, Laura Bartolo, Chandler Becker, and Ray Plante

There is also a “bird of feather” group gathering on Day 2 that may be of our interest: BoF on Domain Vocabularies: Improved Semantics for Domain Vocabulary Development & Standardization - Room MR1 11:30
If its initiators manage to establish a new RDA group, they should be able to help with sensible machine-readable expressions of new vocabularies – across various domains (so we can bring ours as a “business case”). The introduction to the group’s intended scope is over here: https://www.rd-alliance.org/improved-semantics-domain-vocabulary-develop...
    Kind regards,
    Vasily Bunakov (already from Barcelona)

Thank you very much for sending the links and information. We should definitely explore how the EMMC efforts can fit with the Materials Resource Registry work, and I also look forward to hearing the outcomes of the discussions from both EMMC and RDA P9.
